Jennifer Cecil is a certified Master's level therapist. She received her bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona in 1977 and her Master's degree in Counseling in 1979, also from the U of A. She became a Christian at the age of 17, one month prior to attending college and began to integrate her Christian beliefs into the psychological theories and techniques that she learned. She has a passion to help people become whole in "spirit, soul, and body" (I Thessalonians 5:23) so that they can discover and fulfill the purposes and plans for their lives. Jennifer has an
extensive history working with clients on both an inpatient and an outpatient
basis. She began her career working with juvenile status offenders, as
a follow-up counselor with Springboard Shelter Care in Tucson, Arizona.
She also worked at the Tucson Pre-release Center with federal inmates
released from prison. She relocated to Phoenix in 1981 to take a position
at the Department of Corrections-Perryville. She worked there for 10 years
as a Correctional Program Officer, a Psychology Associate working with
male sex offenders, and a Correctional Program Supervisor, working with
female inmates. At her last position, she was responsible for supervising
the programs and counselors at the women's prison. It was there that she
became interested and knowledgeable about addictions and the recovery
process. She was in line for a promotion for an Assistant Warden position, when she realized that her passion was to work with clients on an outpatient basis in a Christian environment where she was free to integrate Christianity with the therapeutic process. She worked for one year at the Adlerian Family Counseling Center in Litchfield Park, before being offered a position at Samaritan Counseling Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was there that she studied with her mentor and founder of the Clinic, Alfred Ells. Under his tutelage, she became adept at the application of therapeutic techniques within a Christians world-view. She also began to teach that which she was learning around the Valley. She has taught women's, single's, marital, and pre-maritial seminars and conferences for over 10 years. Jennifer has facilitated groups on Dr Townsend and Cloud's books including Boundaries, Safe People and Changes That Heal. Jennifer contracted with Remuda Ranch Center For Eating Disorders as a primary therapist and Family Week facilitator. Jennifer is a provider for the New Life Ministries network and Focus on the Family referral network. Jennifer served as Clinical Director at Samaritan Counseling Center for 5 years. New Life Clinics purchased Samaritan in 1997 and she worked for them, until they closed the Arizona offices in September 2000. She opened her private practice at that time and continues to counsel, speak, and is currently endeavoring to write her first book. Jennifer lives in Phoenix with her husband, Darrell who is a financial consultant with Morgan Stanley, and their two sons. Brandon is a Psychology major at ASU and Zachary attends Light and Life Christian School. They attend Church For The Nations. Darrell and Jennifer were active in their previous church, Valley Cathedral, facilitating an adult fellowship class, teaching Financial Peace, Pre-Marital Seminars, and Marital Tune-up classes.
